Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features a seated Liberty. In her left hand she holds a pole with a Phrygian cap, while her right rests upon a shield of the United States. She's framed by the the thirteen stars. Meanwhile the reverse features an eagle with arrows and olive branch in its talons.
The arrows at date and rays around the eagle on the reverse signify a reduction in silver weight on these coins, which marked them as the new standard.
