The 1937 D 3 Legged Buffalo Nickel is one of the most sought after varieties for error collectors. In 1937 a Denver mint employee was tasked with removing die clash marks. In the process he also removed one of the buffalo's legs and this wasn't noticed until the coins were already in circulation.
Designed by James Earle Fraser the obverse features the profile of a Native American, meanwhile the reverse features the iconic bison, Black Diamond.
